SORFA 2023

The Syrphus," or "Sorfa" in Arabic, is a cocoon-stage insect found in the kingdom of Saudi Arabia desert. Due to its suspension among the wolf-inhabited trees, it was known to the inhabitants of the desert as the "wolf's kohl." It is also known as Sorfa in classical terminology, and the Arabs have a well-known proverb that goes, "I make of Sorfa. The artist was inspired by the sturdy construction of the syrphus in creating a cocoon that protects it from heat and cold, as well as the dangers of birds, using elements from the surrounding environment, such as the small branches found in the tamarisk and Arta trees, two of the Arabian Peninsula's most famous trees and plants. In order to construct his ideas, society, and culture without the interference or threat of outside forces, the artist uses this element to emphasize the degree to which creatures interact with nature. In this context, the artist refers to the creation of societies by man using his God-given gifts and talents, which he can use to build development, culture, arts, economy, and other societal manifestations.  According to scholars, civilizations are merely a field reflection of human construction that flourishes and expands in direct proportion to effort and thought, creativity in work, production, and increased integration into the scientific seas. The artist explores the concept of building and its philosophical underpinnings throughout history in this artwork.
